Help Me Choose a Pool Pump and Filter

We do not advise over sizing your pool pump.   Normally a 1 or 1 ½ hp pump is the size recommended for an average pool.   If you oversize the pump you will use more electricity as the power usage curve rises dramatically.   We recommend that a small or middle sized pool requires a 1hp pump and a large pool a 1½ hp pump.   There should not be a need for a pump larger than 1 ½ hp.   These sizes are subject to a typical pool plumbing installation.  If you are considering ordering a Hayward Super II pump it requires 2" lines for 1 1/2 hp and up unless you run 2 suction lines to the pump.   We strongly recommend using Zeobrite with your sand filter to increase the water clarity.   Click here for information on Zeobrite.
Sand filters are the easiest to maintain and have been around for many years.   We recommend a sand filter with your installation.  Normally a 19" or 20" filter is suitable for a small pool, a 22" filter for a medium sized pool and a 24" or 25" for a large pool.   The price difference between a 22" filter and a 24" or 25" filter is not a substantial amount and going to the larger filter is a good choice.

We would recommend a 1hp or 1 1/2 hp Super II for your pool.   If your pool is more than 50' from the pump house it is advisable to install 2" lines to the pool.

Help Me with Pool Heating

How much fuel will my heater burn.

Propane heaters use one gallon of fuel per hour for each 91,000 BTU's of heater input.

Example: A 250,000 BTU heater uses: 250,000/91,000 = 2.75 gallon per hour

Natural gas heaters use one therm (100,000) BTU per 100,000 BTU's heater size. Your gas is usually billed by therms

Induced draft heaters are for outdoor installation only.

Help Me Choose a Diving Board
You will be able to install a diving board with most medium and large pools.   This will be indicated on the plan.   Most of our pools that are diving pools are a standard 8' deep.

Help Me Choose a Pool Cleaner
All in-ground pool cleaners that North West sells are band name cleaners.   Either one will do an excellent job.   They are all suction side cleaners except the Viper.   The Viper is a pressure side cleaner and requires its own pump.

Help Me Choose a Oxidizers
Oxidizers reduce the use of chemicals in your pool.   To learn more about oxidizers go to http://www.waterquality.net

Oxidizers work with Nature 2.   An oxidizer lasts about 15,000 to 20,000 hours.  A bulb lasts about 4 years and costs approximately $80.00 cdn or $56.00 U.S.

Help Me Choose a Pool Liner
To view 30 mil liner patterns go to http://www.northwestwholesale.com/liner_inground.asp

Help Me Choose Deck bracing
Deck bracing is optional.  A braces are standard.  If you are going to pour a concrete deck and there is not any support at the outer edge of the deck you will have to use deck braces or install sona tubes (cardboard tubes you fill with concrete) to give deck support at the outer edge of the concrete walk way (at about 3' from the edge of the pool).  The pool will support the other edge of the concrete deck.

Help Me Choose an In Wall Step
Curved steps are used with shaped pools and the standard walk-in steps are used on straight walls of pools such as rectangles, lazy L's, square L's etc..   The Roman step is used on a straight wall pool.   Figure 4 handrails extend 2' and are used at the side of the step.   To view the various fiberglass products go to http://www.northwestwholesale.com/FiberGlass_Brochure.htm

Feedback from customers is that the in-wall step is a social place for people gather.   With 2 people sitting on a 4' step a third person cannot get by.   A minimum of a 6' step is recommended .

Help Me Choose a Solar Blanket
Our solar blankets are approximately 11 mil.  They can be cut with a utility knife.   If you are purchasing a shape pool select a rectangle cover and cut to size.  Remember that the size of the blanket will have to be increased if you have an in-wall step.

Help Me Choose a Solar Roller
Ensure the roller you select will fit the width of the pool.   You can purchase locking casters that will enable you to move the solar roller.   The locking casters are listed in the Miscellaneous section of the quote page.  The solar roller will not fit under a diving board.

The pool light system is made by Jacuzzi.   A 500 watt light is supplied and provides a bright light in the pool.

Wall foam is used in some areas of North America.   The primary purpose of the wall foam is to give the wall a softer feel.   It is not a necessary item for a pool installation.   We do not supply any glue for the wall foam.   Some contractors install it with two sided tape and some use glue.

Help Me Choose Zeobrite
ZEOBRITE is a special media that was developed to take the place of sand in sand filters. It is more expensive that sand but when used in a sand filter gives you the ease of operation of the sand filter combined with the super filtration equal to a DE filter. A sand filter will filter water between 20 – 30 microns and if ZEOBRITE is used in the sand filter it will filter the water down to 3 - 5 microns. For more information on ZEOBRITE check out our web page at http://www.northwestwholesale.com/zeobrite.asp
